  12. This document contains the documentation for version 0.90 of Miller-Ware
  13. Developments SECURITY for Windows Version 0.90, and later.
  14.  
  15. Version 0.90 of SECURITY for Windows is a BETA test release.  Although
  16. every precaution has been taken in the creation of the software and in the
  17. preparation of this file, these items should be used accordingly. Anyone
  18. who registers this program from a BETA version (pre-version 1.00), will
  19. automatically receive a free copy of the first production release
  20. (version 1.00). Thank you for assisting us in the evaluation of our product.

  60. Part 1: Overview                                     **SECURITY for Windows

  63. SECURITY for Windows by Miller-Ware is a security system to be used with
  64. Microsoft Windows 3.0 and later.  With SECURITY installed on your hard
  65. drive, you will protect your Windows data and programs from unauthorized
  66. trampering, viewing, etc. SECURITY for Windows will help you to maintain
  67. your privacy and protect your important data.
  68.     
  69. Ease of use, flexability, and the features you expect without
  70. sacrificing any of the power or graphics you expect in your software.
  71. This makes SECURITY for Windows by Miller-Ware a step ahead of all 
  72. the rest.

  76. Part 2: Distribution Versions                        **SECURITY for Windows
  77. ===========================================================================
  78. SECURITY for Windows by Miller-Ware is distributed in two versions:  
  79. first as licensed "User Supported Software" (SHAREWARE), and second 
  80. as a licensed, REGISTERED program.  Upon registration, you will receive 
  81. a fully functional copy of the latest version of the program.  
  82. Registered users also receive user support, notice of significant 
  83. upgrades and reduced fee upgrade registration fees.  We believe most 
  84. people who use SECURITY will find it useful, and will register their 
  85. programs.   This is the foundation of the Shareware concept and what 
  86. makes personal computing so exciting.

  91. Part 3: What is SECURITY for Windows?                **SECURITY for Windows
  92. ===========================================================================
  93.  
  94. SECURITY for Windows is a security system for your windows system     
  95. which prevents access to windows without the correct password.
  96. The way SECURITY works is you edit your WIN.INI file so SECURITY 
  97. automatically loads when windows is invoked.  What happens is 
  98. SECURITY takes over the system and will not allow the user to access
  99. Windows without the proper password.  That is all there is to it. 
  100. Authorized users have complete control over passwords for they may
  101. be changed at any time.  If SECURITY is invoked and no response is
  102. received to the request for password verification within 5 minutes,
  103. a screen blanker will take control.  To make another attempt at
  104. entering your password, just press any keyboard key or any mouse key.  
  105. SECURITY may also be used during any Windows session.  Merely click on
  106. the Icon and Windows is activated. The system will stop where it is until
  107. the proper password is entered.

  109. All Registered users are provided with a special Serial Number which
  110. enables them to access the "Back Door" Password.  The Serial Number allows
  111. the user to override the system with a the "Back Door" password at anytime.
  112. If you loose your Serial Number, Miller-Ware Development will maintain a
  113. master list.  All you need to do is contact Miller-Ware Development and we
  114. will assist you. That's real protection. Please see Part 6 "HELP! - I
  115. Forgot my Password" for more information about obtaining Serial Numbers.

  119. Part 4: System Requirements                          **SECURITY for Windows
  120. ===========================================================================

  122. The following are the system requirements for installing and running
  123. SECURITY for windows. The requirements for Microsoft Windows are
  124. sufficient for the addition of SECURITY for Windows to your system.
  125. If you are currently running Microsoft Windows 3.0 or later,  there should
  126. be no problem.  Yet, please keep in mind.  The nice thing about standards
  127. is there are so many to choose from.  Not all "compatible" systems are
  128. fully compatible.  If you have a problem, please contact us.

  131. Minimum System requirements:
  132.            IBM PC/XT/AT, PS/2 or 100% compatible
  133.            512K DOS memory + (2M or more recommended)
  134.            Hard Drive
  135.            DOS version 2.1 or higher
  136.            Microsoft Windows 3.0 or higher
  137.            Logitech or Microsoft compatible mouse (optional)

  142. Part 5: Installation/Set-Up                          **SECURITY for Windows
  143. ===========================================================================

  145. Installation of SECURITY for Windows is simple. The major prerequisite
  146. is you have already successfully installed Microsoft Windows 3.0 or later.   
  147. After you have completed that, follow the following 4 simple steps.

  150.     STEP 1:
  151.         Copy the files provided to your Windows directory or
  152.         create a new directory.  
  153.         
  154.     STEP 2:    
  155.         Use the Program Manager provided with Windows to add
  156.         SECURITY as an application as you would any program.  
  157.         
  158.     STEP 3:    
  159.         Edit the file WIN.INI which should be found in your Windows 
  160.         directory.  Change the run line to display the location of 
  161.         SECURITY for Windows.  
  162.         
  163.     Example:
  164.         If you have the SECURITY in your windows directory which
  165.         is "C:\WINDOWS" you should change the run file to read as
  166.         follows:
  167.  
  168.                 run=C:\WINDOWS\SECURITY.EXE
  169.  
  170.     STEP 4:
  171.         Exit windows and then reinvoke windows. SECURITY will
  172.         create a default password for you.  The password is
  173.         "MILLERWARE". It is recommended you change this password
  174.         to your own at this time. To do this, press the "Change"
  175.         button and follow the prompts.  That's all there is to it,
  176.         except remember your password.

  180. Part 6: HELP! - I Forgot my Password!                **SECURITY for Windows
  181. ===========================================================================

  183. Well, what do you do now, you forgot your password, misplaced 
  184. your "Back Door" and there is no way you can remember your daily password.
  185. What do you do now? Simple, call Miller-Ware Development at (407) 851-5268
  186. and we will help.  Make sure you have your Registration Number and private
  187. Serial Number handy.

  190. Part 7: Licensing Information                        **SECURITY for Windows
  191. ===========================================================================

  193. This software is provided to you under a limited license agreement.
  194. IT IS NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN or FREEWARE.  You do not own the program.  
  195.     
  196. The Shareware release is provided to you under a limited license to use 
  197. the program for limited, private evaluation purposes only.  This 
  198. limited evaluation period is not to execeed 30 calendar days.  This
  199. evaluation period is calculated as 30 calendar days from the day you 
  200. first obtain a copy.  Bonafide Shareware distributors, user groups, 
  201. and SYSOP's of Bulletin Boards refer to the USER GROUPS/SHAREWARE 
  202. DISTRIBUTORS/BBS SYSOP's section of this file for additional information.

  204. Once you have evaluated the program and decide to continue to use it,
  205. you are expected to purchase a REGISTERED release.  This registered
  206. release will provide you with many benefits.  Registered users receive 
  207. notice of major updates and revisions, will be provided with user 
  208. support, have "Password Protection", and may upgrade at reduced prices.

  210. The registration fee is $ 20.00 (Florida residents add 6% sales tax).  
  211. Non-US orders must add $5.00 shipping to their order. See HOW TO 
  212. REGISTER for complete information.

  214. The Registered release is also provided under a license. It may not
  215. be copied, replicated, duplicated, transmitted or otherwise distributed
  216. in any way without the expressed written permission of Miller-Ware
  217. Development.  One back-up copy may be made.  Each registered copy 
  218. is licensed for single system use only.  The program may not be 
  219. installed on multiple machines.  Any Local Area Network (LAN) use of 
  220. SECURITY or installation on multiple computers must be licensed 
  221. separately or by obtaining a site license.  Please contact Miller-Ware 
  222. Development for further details.

  224. Any deviation from these terms is a violation of your license, voids 
  225. it immediately and may subject you to legal penalties.

  227. SECURITY for Windows by Miller-Ware is protected by U.S. Copyright law.  
  228. Because of its shareware status (the Shareware release only), you are 
  229. allowed and encouraged to make copies of the shareware version to give 
  230. to other people.  However, it may not be disassembled or resold (either 
  231. modified or unmodified) without the expressed written permission of 
  232. Miller-Ware Development.

  236. Part 8: User Groups/Shareware Distrib./BBS SYSOP's   **SECURITY for Windows

  239. PC User Groups, Shareware Distribution companies, and BBS SYSOPS
  240. are welcome to include SECURITY for Windows by Miller-Ware (Shareware 
  241. Version) in their libraries/catalogs under the following conditions:

  243.       1)  the files must be completely unmodified;
  244.  
  245.     2)  SECURITY for Windows may not be used to advertise any other 
  246.     product or service without the expressed written permission of
  247.     of Miller-Ware Development;
  248.  
  249.     3)  a diskette/copying fee of $8 or less is charged; and
  250.  
  251.     4)  all of the following files MUST be included:

  267. SECURITY for Windows by Miller-Ware is provided for your entertainment 
  268. and education only.  It is licensed without any warranty of 
  269. merchantability, fitness of particular purpose, performance, or 
  270. otherwise; all warranties are disclaimed.  By using SECURITY for Windows,
  271. you agree neither Miller-Ware Development, the authors, the publishers, 
  272. nor any of the distributors, either licensed or incidental, of this 
  273. software will be liable to you or any third party for any use of 
  274. (or inability to use) this software, or any damages (direct or indirect) 
  275. whatsoever, even if Miller-Ware Development, or any of the other above 
  276. parties are apprised of the possibility of such damages occuring.

  318. your registration. If in the future you require the use of your
  319. Registration Number, it may be found on the main screen.  Un-Registered
